START OF PLAY
• Games begin with a “pull” (throwoff) from the defensive team
• The receiving team gains possession where the disc is first caught or lands
• Players must remain behind their goal line until the pull is released
SCORING
• A point is scored when a player catches the disc inside the opposing team’s end zone
• After a score, teams switch directions and the scoring team pulls the disc
• A player must establish control of the disc while inbounds for the score to count
MOVEMENT, POSSESSION & STALL COUNT
• Players may not run while holding the disc
• Once possession is established, the thrower must stop as quickly as possible
• The thrower may pivot on one foot while in possession of the disc, but may not drag, slide, or change their pivot foot before releasing the disc
• The defender guarding the thrower (“marker”) must remain at least one disc diameter away while performing the stall count
• The marker may audibly count from 1 to 10 at roughly one second intervals
• The thrower must release the disc before the stall count reaches 10 or it becomes a turnover
TURNOVERS
Possession changes when:
• A pass is incomplete
• The disc is dropped
• The disc goes out of bounds
• The stall count reaches 10
• The disc is intercepted
• A player travels while in possession of the disc
After a turnover, play immediately continues from the spot of possession.
